There is nothing more intimate than your Ātman nature. It is the innermost spiritual essence of what you are. It is closer than your breath and more intimate than your next thought.

The Ātman is not something you gain. It is what you always are beneath all layers of identity. Nothing needs to be added or removed.

The Ātman, however, is not your body, not your personality, and not your thoughts. It is the pure, unchanging awareness that’s always present behind every experience. The Ātman is the silent witness, untouched by time, emotion, or circumstance.

Enlightened sages say to know the Ātman is to truly be free in this lifetime. This knowing is direct and immediate, and not something postponed or can be earned.

To describe your Ātman nature, the sages use the term sat-chit-ananda. This Sanskrit word means existence, consciousness, and bliss. These are not three separate things. They are one living reality.

Sat = You are here. You exist. This fact is simple, obvious, and cannot be denied.

Chit = You are aware that you exist. There is a natural knowing, a basic sense of awareness that is always present.

Ananda = When you rest in this simple being and awareness, there is a quiet sense of peace, ease, and sometimes even joy that needs no reason.

The Ātman within you is discovered by aligning with your basic present moment nature that is free from the mind. When you deeply relax about everything in your life, the mind relaxes, and all tension dissolves. Real clarity arises naturally, causing your inner eye to open and see the truth.

Here are a few ways to approach the experience of it through the body. These practices simply clear the clouds in the way. This magnificence inside you has never been obscured, yet only appears so.

  1. Seeing your Ātman nature comes through pure presence. Keep your eyes fixed on one point in perfect stillness for 3+ minutes. Soon, real seeing will show you a glimpse of your Ātman nature. This clear vision is less about right focus and more about letting go.

  2. The best connection comes when you stop forcing, being serious, or pushing your mind to look outward. Use humor and playfulness to relax the mind and let the Light look through you. You are already the Ātman, know this and let the clarity come through.

  1. Truly surrender everything to God, and allow yourself to feel deeply okay. This deep contentment is a result of touching your Ātman nature.

  2. Before going to sleep tonight, when resting in deep stillness, allow your thoughts to slow down and fade and notice what remains. Let your attention rest there on what is aware of the mind.

  3. When preparing your body for sleep, do a short 3 minute self-inquiry exploration. Continually dive in and ask: Who is aware of this? Who am I before any name, role, or story? Stay with the openness of the question.

  4. Explore any moments of deep peace or presence during your day. Feel the quiet sense of pure beingness. Do not add anything to it. Let your ‘I AM’ here now presence, be enough.

My invitation for you is to stop everything and realize your Ātman nature. When you get a taste, you’ll know without a doubt that there is no such thing as death. You will actually feel and know that your soul, your core nature, is immortal.

If you think about life from this higher perspective, there is absolutely nothing to be upset about or be worried about ever again. For when you realize your eternal nature you are free from all fear forever. It is a completely different life. You understand that the eternal Self cannot suffer. It is beyond the body, thus it cannot become attached to anything of this world.

When you discover even a taste of your Ātman presence, allow it to be shared naturally with others. The clarity you embody shines not only through your eyes, but through every movement, every word, and every silence. Your very presence becomes the teaching, quietly transmitting truth without effort or intention.
